I have been reading a book called Understanding Compassion by Renita Boyle & Kate Smith, this is a quote from it
'Convicted of injustice and ingratitude towards God, Israel asks,'what offering should I bring when I bow down to worship the Lord God Most High?' Micah replies, 'The Lord God has told (shown) us what is right and what He demands: "See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey you God"' (Micah 6:6, 8). We are never closer to God, never closer to keeping His commands, never closer to pure worship, never closer to our true humanity than when we are meeting the needs of the most vulnerable.'
